THE PROJECT FOR THE Vigo hospital wins the Health Project Award 2012
The project for the Vigo Hospital wins the Future Health Project Award 2012 chosen by THE INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY FOR DESIGN AND HEALTH.
A landmark project for the region of Galicia and among the largest in Spain, the Vigo hospital is both a medical facility on a large scale and a challenge of integration into a sensitive and constraining site. The building extends out into the landscape, with six wings arranged like the teeth of a comb, resembling sails of white glass held taut by the wind, in a reference to Vigo’s maritime culture. Making the most of the sloping site, the major components of the hospital are organized to allow a panoramic view from all the rooms. The hospital thus asserts itself on a par with the scale of the landscape, but without excessiveness, cultivating intimacy and well-being with effectiveness.
