INAUGURATION DE LA PROMENADE SAINTE-CATHERINE à bordeaux
The Sainte-Catherine Promenade project was inaugurated on Thursday 8 October 2015 by Alain Juppé - Mayor of Bordeaux, Thierry Cahierre - Director General of REDEVCO France and Denis Valode, architect co-founder of the Valode & Pistre agency. A true urban transplant in the heart of the old city, one can discover this project gradually by walking along the new streets that have been designed, which converge onto a square formed around a pool whose design is reminiscent of the former route of the Deveze river. The remarkable tower building is the square’s defining element. The markedly contemporary architecture blends into the traditional texture of the old city by means of the choice of materials (Bordeaux stones, light-coloured bricks, rubble stone, wood, terracotta). The harmoniously-arranged façades, which present subtle variations, embed into the project some restored buildings. Another feature of the project is its great degree of urban mixing by means of a systematic juxtaposition of businesses and houses. Finally, the project addresses the great environmental challenges by means of the choice of materials and of construction processes, reduced energy requirements, and the management of water consumption, with the aim of turning it into a neighbourhood of the future.
